36 WEEKS!!!

Well folks it’s finally here…I can now say I am in the home stretch! And let me tell you I could not be happier to only have 4 weeks (maybe more, maybe less) left before the arrival of Miss Harper. As far as my overall pregnancy goes I must say I don’t have too much to complain about. Everything with her heart checked out perfectly, my blood pressure has been good every visit and they have never once told me that I am going to have a big baby :)! Sounds like it’s just a walk in the park right? Well, except for the constant trips to the bathroom, the inability to roll from your left side to your right side in the middle of the night, or the highs and lows your emotions play on you. I can go from being so extremely overjoyed about Harper’s arrival to extremely overwhelmed that we’re not ready to be parents and we just can’t do it!! Luckily for me I have a very level headed husband who can always talk me down from the ledge, bless him!

In all seriousness though, I have been very blessed with a healthy pregnancy thus far and I just ask for prayers these last few weeks. Prayers that Harper will continue to grow so that she is healthy when she enters this world, prayers for a safe delivery both for me and Harper and finally prayers for me and Aaron, that God will guide us as we begin to care for this new life that has been entrusted to us. We know it won’t be easy and we know there will be difficult days, but with God’s help and our love for each other we can accomplish anything.

Aaron and Erin update: Things have been rather busy for us in the month of December. The first weekend in December was my baby shower. We are so very blessed to have friends and family that care so much about us. On top of all the wonderful gifts we received my mom was able to be there for the shower thanks to my awesome step-dad, Terry!! Thank you Terry you’re the best! It was a great weekend!

The second weekend in December we went up to Cincinnati to see my brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s new house they just built. Aaron and I are so happy for them, their new house is beautiful! This was also our opportunity to celebrate Christmas with Ryan, Jordan, Bob and Gail…oh and don’t forget 5 dogs!! Nothing like breaking in a new house with 5 dogs and 6 adults, right Ryan and Jordan :)?!? It was a fun weekend that I am glad we were able to share together!

This past weekend we celebrated Aaron’s graduation from Morehead State University where he received his MBA. I could not be more proud of my husband who has worked extremely hard for the last several years to complete this program while working a full time job! We celebrated with a delicious meal at Malone’s after the ceremony with Ryan, Jordan, Bob, Gail, MaMa Bea, Stephanie and Abby. It was a great day celebrating Aaron and we thank everyone who came to help us celebrate!! Here is a picture of me and Aaron right before the ceremony started. Doesn't he look so handsome?!

Well that leaves us with Christmas which is just a few days away. Shawn got to Lexington last night and Mom and Terry will be here tonight. We are going to go to the Christmas Eve service on Saturday and then eating our big meal together on Christmas day! Shawn has to leave the day after Christmas, but Mom and Terry are able to stay for the week. Aaron and I are both off all week and we plan to finish up the last minute things we still have to do before Harper arrives. And hopefully we’ll find some time to rest as this will be our last opportunity before she makes her debut!!

With no further a due here is our 36 week picture. Pregnancy looks like it’s starting to take its toll on me. Hopefully the next picture is with Harper :)!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. May we all take a few moments during this Christmas season to remember the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins.

Until next time,
Erin

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!!

Sorry I'm a few days late on my 32 week post, but with the holiday weekend just wrapping up I was unable to spend any time in front of the computer to write this post. Now it's back to the daily grind and Christmas will be here before we know it!!

I hope you all had a very nice Thanksgiving and were able to reflect on all that you have to be thankful for. I am thankful for my health and the health of my family members. I am thankful for my wonderful husband and this sweet baby girl growing inside of me. It's so hard to believe that we will be meeting her in less than 8 weeks!

Our Thanksgiving Day consisted of us sleeping in, watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, cleaning house (which it desperately needed) and then eating our Thanksgiving meal at the Cracker Barrel. While the food was very tasty I hope that Aaron and I do not have to eat our Thanksgiving meal there very often. Don't get me wrong, it was nice not having to cook and clean up, but there is just something about having your own food with your family that makes Thanksgiving seem more like...well, Thanksgiving. At least Aaron and I were together and that's all that matters. We finished the day by getting down the Christmas decorations and watching the Dallas Cowboys pull out a win over the Miami Dolphins...way to be Boys!!

Aaron had to work on Friday so I took care of getting the tree decorated and doing a little Christmas shopping. No, I didn't not get up early for the Black Friday deals. I think I went around lunch time and it was much more enjoyable :)

So that is what our Thanksgiving Holiday looked like. I hope yours was just as pleasant!!

Harper Update: We had our last sonogram on Wednesday with the specialist. Everything with her heart looks great and there are no concerns! YAY!! She weighs 4 lbs. 6 oz. and has long legs. The tech said her legs already measures above average so she's going to be tall like her daddy!! We tried really hard to get a 3D image of her, but she was nice and cozy with her face pressed up against the uterus wall and would not move. We actually saw her put her hand by her face and push back!! Stubborn little thing :) So now we wait...we wait with the excitement of a child on Christmas morning to meet our little girl! We know that God has so much in store for this beautiful child and we pray that God will give me and Aaron the wisdom, guidance and knowledge to lead her in the right direction.

Here we are at 32 weeks!
One last thing. I have to give a shout out to my dear friend Staci as she heads to the hospital this afternoon to begin the process of being induced. I am so excited for she and Danny as they will be meeting their sweet baby girl Lyla Kathryn in the next day or two!! Good luck, we love you guys and we'll be praying for a safe delivery!

Until next time,
Erin

The Home Strectch

28 weeks down...12 to go! That's right folks I am in my final trimester. I'd like to say that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but that's not true since I imagine these last 12 weeks will the be the toughest of them all.

I don't have any major complaints at this point. It's getting hard to turn from side to side in bed and I have to get up at least 3 (or more) times a night to use the bathroom. But luckily Harper is sleeping when I'm sleeping and not waking me up in the middle of the night. She moves all day long which is great, let's hope she keeps it this way!! The only other thing that has been a pain is my heartburn. The doctor told me to take Prevacid and it worked for about two weeks, but lately it's been sneaking back up on me throughout the day. She said if Prevacid didn't work then we would try Nexium, so hopefully we can get that taken care of at my appointment tomorrow.

Speaking of appointment tomorrow is our Gestational Diabetes screening. I hear mixed reviews on the liquid you have to drink, some women really liked it and some really hated it. I'll have to let you all know my verdict next time. She also said that tomorrow we will begin discussing my labor plan (already, YIKES?!?!) and talking about finding a pediatrician. Did you know you can't leave the hospital unless you have a pediatrician? That was news to me! Basically tomorrow will probably be the longest appointment of them all, but at least we know that going in.

We have signed up for all of our baby classes at the hospital. We're taking 4 different classes! Birthing class, Breathing & Relaxation, Infant CPR and Breastfeeding. If we're not ready for a baby after all of those I'd don't know that we'll ever be ready. I'll be sure and report back after we've finished up.

A week from tomorrow I leave for Las Vegas for the ISPA Conference. Say a little prayer for me and Harper that we make through with no problems. It will be 5 long days on my feet all day. I'm sure everything will be fine and trust me I will not be hitting the Vegas strip at night, this momma will be going to bed as soon as I am able!

Well with no further a due, here is my 28 weeks picture. Getting bigger and bigger...

Oh! I almost forgot to mention the amazing Texas Rangers. Tonight's their night and they're going to win it all!! GO RANGERS!!

Until next time,

Home Sweet Home

First things first. I have to mention the amazing game between the Texas Rangers and Detorit Tigers this past Saturday. The Rangers brought their big bats and whooped up on the Tigers 15-5 to secure their place in the World Series for a second year in a row. This year they are going to win it all!! Let's Go Rangers!!!

I actually got to be in Dallas this weekend which made the Rangers win even sweeter. I flew to Dallas on Friday after work where Mom and Terry picked me up at the airport. We then went to meet Staci and Danny for dinner at the delicious Pappasito's so I could get my fix of Tex-Mex while I was there. It was delicious!

Saturday was Staci's baby shower. We had a fun time taking pictures of our pregnant bellies as you can tell below...

Harper and Lyla will be best friends!!!

Our good friend and Gamma Sigma sister, Amanda Vasquez (A-Vas) came to the shower too and it was so good to catch up with her.
Here's me and mom at the shower...
After the shower we did some shopping for Miss Harper. Terry made sure to get her a fair share of Cowboys and Rangers gear. Along with lots of other great stuff from Gymboree, Macy's and Buy Buy Baby! Harper hit the baby jackpot this weekend and she doesn't even know it yet :)
Another great thing was that Mom finished all of Harper's bedding for her nursery and I was able to bring it home with me. I couldn't resist putting it all together when I got home last night. It looks so good! I love it!! Thanks Grandma Nan!!
Isn't the blanket/bed spread awesome?!?!

This is the view of her room standing in the door way!

It was a great weekend in the Big D and it was so good to see my parents and be there for Staci's shower. Stay tuned next week for the 28 week picture.
Until next time...

24 Weeks and counting!

Well folks we officially have a pregnant belly!! It is amazing to look about at the picture from a month ago and see how much my belly has grown. And it only gets bigger from here...eek!!

Here is my 24 week picture...

Update on baby Harper: if you didn't know, we have seen a specialist twice now to make sure Harper's heart is in tip top shape. Due to the fact that my dad passed away from a congenital heart defect they wanted to make sure I didn't pass it on to my child. Even though the odds are very slim, I still have a higher chance of having a child with a heart defect than the average person. So last week we got a chance to see little Harper again and briefly got to see her in 3D. I'll tell you though, she is a busy body. Every time we have a sonogram the tech always says "Wow, you have a wiggle worm!" I don't mind it too much right now because it lets me know she is still there :) The tech did say it's going to make for an uncomfortable mommy when she gets bigger! YIKES! The specialist wants to see us one more time when I am 32 weeks just to do one last check and make sure she is growing like she is supposed to. After that we should be in the clear to deliver a healthy baby!

Here is the picture from last weeks appointment. That nose is still as cute as ever!

The other day we came home to a very nice surprise on our porch. We got our car seat and stroller that we registered for! Bob and Gail got us our first major baby gift that we have to have and we are very thankful. We got it all put together pretty easily and made sure the stroller fit in our trunks. It is still a rather large contraption in the folded up position, but it fit just fine. Now Harper will be rockin the red and gray Chicco car seat and stroller when we're out and about :)

As you can see Mic and Murry are more interested in what Aaron has, but they were rather curious when we were getting it out of the box. According to my count down on my phone we have 112 days until Harper will be here. I know that time will go quickly, especially when we hit that 90 day mark. January 19th will be here before we know it.

Until next time...

Beach Wedding

Samson Family

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Samson!! My brother-in-law got married on September 12, 2011 to my now sister-in-law Jordan Tischler on the beach in Kitty Hawk, NC. Both families came together for a beautiful beach wedding to witness Ryan and Jordan getting married. It was followed by a very fun party!! Even this pregnant momma shook it on the dance floor :) I figured this was the last time before I got any bigger!!

The rest of the week went something like this. Wake up, eat breakfast, go to the beach, come back for lunch, go to the pool, get dressed for dinner, go to dinner, go to bed...repeat. Sounds pretty rough huh? As you can see we were either by the water or eating the entire time we were there. Even Mic had the same schedule we did. He swam every day and loved every minute of it!! He was so tired at night he could hardly keep his eyes open.

We celebrated Aaron's 27th birthday while we were at the beach with some delicious hamburgers made by Terry Mills...best burgers ever!! It was a great way to conclude our wonderful week in North Carolina. I hope to be able to go back one day soon! If you've never been I highly recommend it.

Here are some pictures from the week.

Baby Bump Progress

Two posts in one day...how lucky are you?!?! I just wanted to give everyone a quick baby bump update. I will take a picture every 4 weeks so you can all see how Harper is growing!

Enjoy!
Erin

16 Weeks

20 Weeks

Baby Girl Samson

First off I must apologize for the lack of posting on the blog. Things have been a little busy for us the past couple of months and I have completely let the blog slide. My goal is to be better about blogging now that we are expecting a little one!

That's right, in case you didn't know we are expecting our first baby in January 2012!! We recently found out we are having a little GIRL!! And we couldn't be happier. Here is the latest picture we have of her. Look at that adorable button nose!!

Last week we had our friends over for a reveal party so they could all find out together what we were having. But to shake things up a little bit, Aaron and I didn't find out until our friends found out. Here's how it worked. We went to the doctor and during the ultrasound the tech told us to look away when she was determining the sex (we didn't peek). She wrote whether is was a boy or a girl on a note card and seal it in an envelope. I (Erin) then took the note card to a bakery where they were expecting me. I picked the cake up after work and then waited patiently for everyone to arrive (again I didn't peek, I promise)! Once everyone arrived Aaron and I cut into the cake together and we could both tell right away it was PINK inside!! When we held up the piece of pink cake everyone cheered! It was so fun to celebrate that with our friends and it was definitely worth the wait!

The cake after we cute into it!

Aaron and I with the note card the ultrasound tech wrote on!!

Now that it has set in that we are having a little girl we have started buying lots of pink stuff! We have even already painted her room and will be picking up her furniture this weekend. I'll save the pictures of the room for when it is complete. It's going to be so cute!!

So now the waiting begins...I am 20 weeks and half way there. These first 20 weeks have gone by fast, but I get the feeling the next 20 will not go as fast. We can't wait to meet our little bundle of joy!

We plan to name her Harper Elizabeth Samson and we can't wait to know more about her. We dream about who she will look like, who she will become, will she be tall like Aaron, will she have my personality, what will she be when she grows up? One thing I know for sure is that she will be raised in a loving Christian environment where she will know Jesus and that he has a plan for her life!

Keep checking back and I promise to be better about posting information about Harper and her progress!

Love,
Aaron and Erin

Legends Game

Last night several members of our St. Luke UMC family braved the cool rainy night to watch the Lexington Legends play baseball in a double header.
Our crew, pre-rain!

Me and my hubby!

If you don't know Lexington has been getting pounded with rain this month with the wettest April recorded in history. We came close to becoming the wettest month ever (16+ inches), so close! Needless to say we weren't surprised when it started raining AGAIN!!! However we got this beautiful rainbow for sticking it out through the rain!

That rain only lasted a few minutes, but it wasn't long before the next one rolled in. The temperature dropped 11 degrees in a matter of about 20 minutes and the rain was much stronger. Our group still wanted to stick it out and before you knew it we were the only people still in the stadium.

St. Lukers in the rain!

Jamie and Brooke braving the rain!

Eventually the weather had dropped down to 53 degrees and we were soaking wet! I was too cold to stay for the rest of the game so we headed out. Once we got home and saw the news, they had post-poned the game so I'm glad we left when we did. But all in all it was a great night with great friends!!

King and Queen of Country

My Dear Husband did what any man would do when he heard that George Strait and Reba were headed to the area. He bought his country loving wife tickets to the show!! Let me tell you, it was the best concert I think I have ever seen! I never thought I would ever get to see them individually let alone together. It was a dream come true!

The concert was in Louisville on Saturday night. We left Lexington around 5 pm and got to Louisville where we ate dinner at California Pizza Kitchen (yum). Then we headed downtown to the brand new KFC Yum! Center home to the Louisville Cardinals (Boo). The building is state-of-the-art and it's beautiful.

Here we are headed into the concert

Leann Womack opened the show, we got there just in time to hear her sing "I Hope You Dance" and one or two more. I don't really care all that much about her music, but everyone knows that song.

It was just a short while later that Reba graced us with her presence and man can that woman perform!! I'm pretty sure she sang almost all of her 35 #1 hits, or at least it seemed that way. She put on a full concert and totally lived up to all the hype I've heard about how amazing her concerts are. My one wish that didn't come true is I wanted George to come out and sing, "If You See Him/If You See Her" with Reba that she originally did with Brooks and Dunn in 1998, but no such luck :( However, Leann came back out to sing, "Does He Love You" that Reba did with Linda Davis in 1993 and it was pretty awesome!! And of course Reba's encore was Fancy where she came out in a red dress and brought the house down!

Reba and Leann "Does He Love You"

During the break between Reba and George we got to see a piece of Kentucky's finest nearly battle it out over a little spilt beer. The F-bomb was flying all over the place, but peace was resorted and The King of Country was up next!!

One fine looking man!!!

I mean can anyone argue with the above statement that George Strait is a gorgeous human being?!?! Even if he is almost 60 years old, he has still got the good looks that he was blessed with. And he was not a disappointment on Saturday when he came out in his Wranglers, button down shirt and black cowboy hat...mmmm!!! George sang just about every song I could think of. If you don't know he has 57 #1 hits!!! So I don't think he sang all of them, but he picked all the good ones. I got extremely excited when he said, "We've had a lot of number one hits because of my wonderful fans, this isn't one of them, but it's still my favorite." When Amarillo By Morning started and the crowed when nuts I had to lean over to the stranger next to me and tell her that I am from there!! She probably thought I was crazy! I know my husband looked at me like I crazy at the point :)

George sang for almost 2 hours! We got home around 1:30 am extremely exhausted, but it was totally worth it!

Thank you Aaron for a night I will never forget, I love you!

Upward Basketball

About 3 months ago I volunteered to be the head coach for an Upward Basketball team. At first I was nervous about being the head coach, becasue I wasn't confident that I knew enough about basketball to be the head coach. Nonetheless I was assigned to be the head coach of a Kindergarten team and we were going to be called the Hilltoppers (after Western Kentucky University).

We had one practice in December before the holidays and then our season was in full swing after the new year. We had two more practices before our first game on January 15th. The season was eight games long and luckily we didn't have to cancel any of our games due to bad weather!

I had five kindergarten boys on my team who ranged from no basketball experience to one boy who plays basketball everyday and is quite good (watch out he might just be playing for UK one day!)

We had practice every Monday with another kindergarten team. It was fun to practice with another team, because that meant we had 4 coaches (more help!) and got to know 10 kids.

This past Saturday was our last game and I have to say that I am sad to see the season end. Mid-way through the season I was counting down the games until it was all over. But now that it truly is over and I will not see the boys on my team anymore I am sad that the eight weeks went by so quickly!

Our game on Saturday was the best game we had all season. It was so cool to see how far the players have come. They all scored!! And they started passing the ball to each other when they were being double teamed. Upward doesn't keep score on the kindergarten teams, but if they did I am positive we would have gone undefeated!!

So here is my shout out to the Hilltoppers (McKean, Anderson, Clay, Landon and Chase) for their excellent season! And I hope that we are able to see each other soon!

2.21.09

So you might be asking yourself what the significance of the date in the title is? Well that my friends is the date that I met Aaron for the first time in St. Louis, MO. We were both so nervous the first time we met, but who wouldn't be. I remember, we met at the hotel to leave one car. Then we started trying to navigate around this foreign city. I knew right then and there driving around this city that I was going to marry him! I just knew that if we could work together to find our way around that we could get through anything in life together. And from that day on we have been together. Not always physically together, but together in heart.

Yesterday was our 2 year anniversary and we spent the weekend in Gatlinburg, TN. It was so nice to have a weekend away to just be with each other and have nothing do to. We ate at some great restaurants, did a little shopping and of course took in all the sights that Gatlinburg has to offer (if you've never been just imagine Branson on steroids!!). It was great to reminisce on our first trip together meeting in St. Louis. Here we are at the top of the arch. This is the first thing we did after we met!

We have now been married almost 7 months and it is amazing to think how far we have come. Every time I think there is no way I could love Aaron any more than I do right now, he does something to make my love grow even stronger. I know this is going to sound cheesy, but the Brad Paisley song truly says it...I thought I loved you then!

I love you Aaron Samson, you're the best thing that ever happened to me!!

From this moment...

C-A-T-S! Cats, Cats, Cats

In November I was fortunate enough to score some extremely cheap lower arena tickets to the UK vs. Tennessee basketball game. Once I got the tickets I decided to make the tickets Aaron's Christmas present. I had the tickets for almost a month before he got them and let me tell you keeping them a secret was really hard! I am not very good at keeping secrets...I love to share good news! So here is Aaron on Christmas morning after he opened his tickets. He was very surprised!!

So last week it was finally time for the game. Oh I forgot to mention this was going to be my first experience attending a UK game. For those of you who don't know anything about sports or basketball. Kentucky basketball is like football to Texans! Kentucky fans love their Wildcats especially when they are winning. When UK lost to West Virgina last year in the NCAA tournament you would have thought someone had died. The next day at church everyone was walking around with their sad faces on!! Needless to say UK basketball is a BIG deal and this was going to be a first for me! I was excited!! Here we are before the game started. I am sporting my blue with a UK face tattoo!

The atmosphere at the game is electric and contagious. I had no affiliation to UK until I met Aaron, but let me tell you, it is easy to get wrapped up in all the excitement of basketball! I cheered when Josh Harrelson dunked on a Tennessee guys face and yelled when the refs made a horrible call. I think my favorite thing about being at the game was all of the things that go on that you don't see on TV. From the cheerleaders and dance team to the reporters on the court there is so much to see during time outs. We had a special treat for this game! In the second half during a time out the cheerleaders spell out Kentucky with their bodies on the floor. They always have someone special come out and be the "Y". At this particular game John Wall (famous Cat from last year who was picked #1 by the Washington Wizards) was in attendance and he was the "Y". The crowd when wild when he came out as the "Y". It was pretty awesome!!

If any of you are following the Cats this season you will know that they are not having the greatest season. The are 1-5 on the road in SEC games. They play really well at home which was great for us to be in attendance at this game. UK dominated Tennessee and came away with a big "W". I must say that my first experience at a UK game was a great one!! Go CATS!!!

West Virginia

Aaron and I headed up to West Virginia to have Christmas with Aaron's parents on Friday after Aaron got home from work. We left Lexington around 8 p.m. and were driving to Hurricane in on again, off again snow with Mic and Murry. I was a little worrried the roads were going to get bad, but we made it there safe and sound. My brother-in-law and his fiance (Ryan and Jordan) were already there.

Saturday we all slept late and took our time getting ready for our family pictures that were at 1:00 p.m. I forgot to add that the snow finally caught up to us and it snowed about 4" during the night!! For our family pictures we took all 4 dogs to the park and met the photographer for one picture with everyone and the dogs in the snow...it was freezing, but hopefully we got a cute picture. Then we dropped the dogs off at the house and went to the studio to take the rest of the pictures. This family session was our gift to Bob and Gail for Christmas.

Later Saturday evening both sides of Aaron and Ryan's family all came over for dinner. Just to give you a mental image there were about 16 people and 4 dogs. Needless to say it was kind of like a circus. So much so that our little 19 lb. dog, Murry, who has everyone fooled to believe he is the sweetest thing ever, bit Aaron's 10 year old cousin, Abby on the leg so hard that she had 4 little bruise marks from his fangs!! After some tears and Aaron and I feeling so bad we banished Murry to his crate, we continued on with a game of Scategories. Murry cried the entire time he was in his crate. I think he knew he was in trouble. Abby came back over on Sunday, she and Murry made up, he felt bad :)

We went to church, ate lunch and then headed home on Sunday in just enough time to start some laundry, clean up the house and make some cookies for our college bible study that we host on Sunday nights. It was a fast and furious weekend, but it was nice to see Aaron's family.

The pictures up above are of Aaron and Ryan with their 93 year old grandfather, Pa-Pa. And me and Jordan with him too! He is such a sweet man. Everytime he see's me he tells me I'm waiting on that Samson girl. There has not been a Samson girl in almost 70 years and he thinks it's about time for one. I just say Aaron and I will see what we can do!
Happy Monday!

Back on the saddle again

So I gave blogging a chance early last year, but I wasn't the best at keeping up with it. I was blogging about my travels with my job, but a lot of times I found it hard to keep up with the blogging while I was on the road. Then in September I got a new job that does not require me to travel.

Now that Aaron and I have been married for 5 monts I thought it would be a good idea to start documenting the rest of our first year of marriage and all the years to come. And I promise to keep up with this blog and maybe I can even get Aaron to make a couple of posts as well.

With the beginning of a New Year and 360 days left in 2011 Aaron, Mic, Murry and myself have a lot of exciting days ahead of us. So here's wishing you and yours a Happy New Year!!
~Erin
